Night Terrors: (any and all quick responses appreciated)

It's a very recent and very terrifying experience for me. I'm not only jeopardizing my own restful nights, but others as well. I've never encountered anything in the real world as scary as these night terrors. Does anyone have any experience with these, and any suggestions on how to prevent, or at least limit them? For clarification, I'm talking about those odd dreams that seem normal, until you wake up, feeling as though your life is over, usually including screams like bloody murder. I know it's not common, and I'll respect opinions that it may seem childish, but I'm desperate. Any advice is welcome. Thanks.

Eating any new spicy foods
or foods hard to digest in the
hours close to retiring?

{Have not an idea, just a guess here,
you asked for a quick response}

Thanks. It's just really difficult to deal with, and it could possibly present some problems if they don't come under control soon.

As for your suggestion, thank you. I'll try eating earlier, or going to bed later.

You are welcome.

Also at one time this person I knew
when they had an ear infection
they would also get these night terrors.
Wake up and screaming like anything
After they were treated by their Dr. for the
ear infection, then too the night terrors were no longer.
Then again it might be the infection was at such a degree
that thusly there was a resulting pain that caused this one
to awaken...

Just thot I would mention, as this too comes to mind.

May you be on the Road To Recovery.... Soon!

Here is a link that may help you:
http://sleep.lovetoknow.com/Night_Terrors_in_Adults
These things, sleep paralysis, bad dreams right when you fall asleep also can be related to Sleep Apnea, not a disease for just the elderly or overweight. I work out regularly, and am in good shape, but still have apnea. Your doctor and a sleep clinic will probably be able to help you with this.
If I remember right from other posts, you're around 18 or so, which puts you between pediatrics and adult, I guess 18 is adult but still your brain stops developing now they say around 25. The question in knowing if it's frequent nightmares or actual night terrors, is apparently the victim of a terror can't be awakened, and doesn't know the terror even happened, while we all know nightmares are remembered and can be wakened from.

I know this is a slow response but I need to post as this has always fascinated me.:
As a child, I had them alot...but when awake, I was fully aware of them. I don't know what caused them or even how to describe them but wow were they bad! They just went away after a while so I doubt their is a quick fix.

I haven't had one since I last posted, so I have my fingers crossed. I'll admit though, it's hard to get to sleep knowing that I have no control over whether or not it will happen. I just try not to think about it.

I think that's the best thing you can do, Jess; try not to think about it and live your life as happily as you can.

I also experience sort-of night terrors where soon after I fall asleep after going to bed, I'll wake up with a start and be absolutely petrified for no reason at all that I can figure out. -- this maybe happens on average about once or twice a month.
I will take a read of the above link; thanks.

The only time I had anything even close to this, it was a very stressful time. If these are new, it could be linked to stress you may be experiencing.

That's probably exactly what it is. I hear about it happening a lot to young kids, but I didn't experience anything worse than a nightmare when I was little.

I am way out of the loop on everything online from being on vacation for so long. LOL But if you're having a stressful time, that is most likely the cause.

have you changed any medications lately? that could also be the cause. i've had them while taking pain meds.

Ah yes I've heard certain medication can bring that on. It really is a mysterious thing...perhaps just talking it out might help. Just a thought.

try to do some meditation, or listen to relaxing music. might help you. try to relax before you go to bed. wind down your brain activity. it doesn't need to link with any religion, just some breathing technic might help your body to relax, and have a better sleep.

Well, I am on the pill, although I've been on it for almost a year, so I don't know if that's it.

Perhaps. Doctors are good for giving out this info. :)
